Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official stated the incident made him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
